Why minerals?

This is the foundation. If your goal is to restore your metabolism and heal your hormones, you have to lay the foundation of adequate mineral consumption in your day to day life.

Why is this?

ALL your hormonal processes in your body are driven by enzymes. Each hormone has an enzymatic process necessary for its production and regulation. Now, while enzymes drive your hormonal processes, it’s MINERALS that catalyze enzymes. Without adequate mineral intake, your body simply cannot reach homeostasis (balance) with your hormones. Minerals mitigate your stress response by increasing your anti stress hormones. Minerals help regulate your nervous system.

It’s important to remember: As stress increases, your mineral requirements increase as well. This is why wellness CANNOT be one size fits all.

As a way to protect you, your body will use up minerals to keep all vital life functions going. Your heart pumping, lungs breathing, etc.

IF minerals are not adequately replenished during or after times of stress, your body won’t know to turn off its stress response. Meaning it will continue utilizing exorbitant amounts of minerals to keep you ALIVE.

Because the purpose of the stress response is to keep you alive, all non-essential body functions will shut down. For women, this is a huge concern in regards to your cycle and fertility.

A period is not essential for life and neither is reproduction. Your body will not produce the hormones necessary for optimal fertility when it is under large amounts of stress because minerals are being used elsewhere to keep you up and walking.

This happens for a few different reasons. Adrenaline and progesterone have an inverse relationship. As adrenaline increases, progesterone decreases. Similarly, adrenaline in your system actually makes your cells less sensitive to progesterone. As you know, progesterone is the PROcreation hormone. If our bodies are stressed, our reproductive capabilities will fail. Another reason why stress hormones, out of context, can throw your hormones is because of what they do to your thyroid and liver.

The thyroid, liver, and adrenals have a very intricate relationship and are all essential for proper hormonal function. Elevated stress hormones actually slow liver and thyroid function, which then slow all metabolic processes in the body (this is one mechanism by which progesterone production is slowed in the body as well). The thyroid is your MAIN frame for metabolic function, and if it is not working efficiently, everything else in the body falls apart. How do you keep a high functioning thyroid and liver? Sugar and minerals.

Some simple ways and habits to increase mineral consumption:

  • Eat minimum 2k calories a day

  • consume raw dairy

  • Eat grass fed beef products and liver

  • Daily adrenal cocktails

  • Magnesium bicarbonate

  • Ningxia red

  • Sea salt your water

  • Bee products

  • Fresh ripe fruit

  • Limit raw vegetable consumption

If you feel like you are doing everything right but you are NOT focusing on mineral intake, there’s your problem right there! By focusing on mineral intake, your thyroid, adrenals, and liver can all work together to maintain hormonal balance and keep cortisol in check.

Don’t skimp out—it’s legitimately one of the most important things on your hormones healing journey 💛
